The Cumberland Food Action Network (CFAN)  is a member based organization that promotes positive food changes in our local community of Cumberland County, Nova Scotia.

CFAN works towards a more accessible, sustainable & healthy local food system through food-related action, education and events.

CFAN membership are community members, farmers, health care professionals, care-givers, community gardeners and passionate food lovers. CFAN is made up of people like you!

Shannon Jones

Shannon Jones

Chairperson of the Board

Shannon Jones is a small-scale organic vegetable and flower farmer. She runs Broadfork Farm in River Hebert with her partner Bryan. Shannon was inspired to become a farmer after studying nutrition. She felt that the best way for her to help people eat healthy food would be to grow the most nutrient-dense, organic food she could. Shannon and Bryan are very happy to have settled down in Cumberland County and look forward to deepening their roots.

Karen is a mother of six, is a long time employee of Maggie's Place. Karen and her partner Christopher have been backyard gardeners forever. Karen has been involved in food security for many years and is interested in educating people in growing and cooking food.

Lisa Emergy is a councillor for the Town of Amherst since October 2012. She has also developed two community gardens in the town and hopes to develop more in the future. She is Vice President the CFAN organization and she strongly believes in food security for all.

Su was raised on a small family farm in Southern Ontario. She hold Honours Bachelor's degrees in Human Kinetics and Sociology from the University of Windsor, ON, where she developed a strong commitment to environmentalism and social justice. Su has over 20 years of hands-on experience in organic gardening, community garden development and community food security work. Some of her favourite things in life include making art and music, hanging out outdoors, seed saving, and of course growing food and flowers.

Del Seto is the owner of Side by Each Farm, in Amherst. Del joined meetings to get involved in our communities food security issues. Del really enjoys educating small groups to share skills and knowledge. Del is especially knowledgable about composting with worms and brings that skill to many CFAN members as wonderful workshops.

Treasurer

Jody Zinner sits as the treasurer for CFAN. Jody moved to Cumberland County and decided to settle down because of the wealth of clean air, water and earth – she knew the moment she arrived that protecting this wealth is a priority.
