The Cumberland County Cost-Share CSA Local Food Box Program is a pilot project which aims to connect low-income families with healthy and affordable local and sustainably produced food. A partnership of the Cumberland Food Action Network, Ecology Action Centre (EAC), and local farms, the Cost-Share CSA Local Food Box Program is the first of its kind in Cumberland County and in Nova Scotia.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a system through which customers sign up for a share in the farm and in exchange receive a weekly food box throughout the growing season. The Cost-Share CSA Local Food Box Program subsidizes half the cost of a regular CSA share. Low income subscribers pay $10 per week per food box and the remaining $10 is raised through community donations.
