Indian pear (Amelanchier) also known as Juneberry, Serviceberry, Sugar Pear, Saskatoon Berry, Shadbush
Indian pear is a woody plant that varies in size from a shrub to a small tree. Clusters of tiny white flowers will bloom in early spring.
The berries are edible and have a unique delicate flavor similar to blueberry. Harvested from mid July to mid August the berries can be eaten raw, made into sauce, jam, pies, incorporated into cakes or muffins. Dried they can be added to granola or porridge.
